Ptolemäische Zeit: Der Offizier einer τάξις nennt sich ταξίαρχος oder ταξιάρχης bzw. ἑκατοντάρχης und ist der schweren Infanterie zuzuordnen (van't Dack, E., La littérature tactique de l'antiquité et les sources documentaires, in: E. van't Dack, Ptolemaica Selecta, Louvain 1988, 47-64, hier 51). Römische Zeit: Allgemein handelt es sich um eine Militäreinheit bzw. Truppe, die in der römischen Zeit im Kontext auch als Legion oder Kohorte erscheinen kann (siehe dazu Mason, a.O.).
